Lex van Dommelen · Netherlands

I design and build things for the web, now mostly with AI.

I'm a UX designer and front-end developer with a working knowledge of the back end. For years I stuck to websites, because applications took more time and deep coding than I wanted to invest. AI changed that. I now design and build my own applications, steering the experience while the AI writes most of the code.

I enjoy exploring and building digital things for their own sake. I start with a broad first version and then refine it step by step. On YouTube I share that process so people a few steps behind can start building too.

What I'm doing now

  • Techies Reviews

Honest reviews of web and WordPress tools, with written tutorials and prebuilt components on techies.review. In November: a four-week WordPress security series with Melapress.

  • Websites and UX

By day I build websites, including custom Elementor components. I'm moving towards more UX work: sitting with people, understanding their problems, and improving things from there.

Things I've made

Most of these started as a problem in my own work. Some are finished, some are experiments.

  • Native Site Editor

Visual editor for plain HTML, CSS and web-component sites, with a native live preview and no build step. It runs techies.review.

    Alpha

  • CamFrame

A view-only camera window for screen tutorials, so my head stops covering the interface I'm explaining.

    Done for now

  • Techies Playground

Spins up WordPress Playground with a stack of premium plugins in one go, instead of downloading, installing and licensing each one.

    Live

  • YouTube Scheduler

A calendar for scheduling and moving YouTube uploads around, built for a fellow creator.

    Live

  • Creator Studio

One place for research, ideas, assets, social posts and livestreams, so the context around an idea doesn't get lost between apps.

    In progress

  • Astro Live Builder

An experiment that compiles and renders Astro pages entirely in the browser, with click-to-edit and a live code panel.

    Experiment

  • Techies Framework

A design system that captures my design preferences as guidance for AI, plus a CodePen-like library of UI patterns with editable HTML and CSS you can copy into your own work.

Say hello.

The easiest way to reach me is on X or LinkedIn. I'm always happy to hear what you're building.
